Ayah Rahmoun

Ayah Rahmoun is a young engineer whose passion, innovation, and leadership have already set her apart as one of the brightest talents in the industry. Graduating with honors from Heriot-Watt University’s renowned School of Energy, Geoscience, Infrastructure and Society (EGIS), where her passion for AI was further developed through active participation in student clubs and workshops. Currently, Ayah is researching the sustainability of artificial intelligence itself, investigating how AI can be developed and deployed in ways that minimize environmental impact while maximizing societal benefit. Her aim is to ensure that the next generation of digital tools uplifts both industry and planet. Furthermore, Ayah has distinguished herself as the only Middle Eastern Student to reach the top five in the fiercely competitive 2024 YEA UK Undergraduate of the Year. She was awarded the coveted 2024 CIBSE Region Graduate of the Year, Ayah was commended by the judges for her impressive dissertation, “Unveiling the Hidden Challenges of Building-Applied Photovoltaics,” which tackled the complex issue of dust accumulation impairing solar panel efficiency in the MENA region. Her research proposed innovative, water-conscious maintenance strategies that garnered recognition from leading industry bodies including EGBC and ASHRAE also capturing the interest of several industry-leading companies. Beyond her technical accomplishments, Ayah is deeply committed to giving back to the engineering and academic community. She actively mentors students and emerging professionals, with a particular focus on empowering young women to pursue careers in engineering. Through her involvement in initiatives such as WiBSE and WiA, she champions greater representation and inclusion in the built environment. Ayah believes that real change comes from elevating voices, not just technologies.

Currently at Arup, Ayah has applied her technical expertise to a wide range of high-profile projects, contributing innovative ideas that are helping to shape the future of the built environment.  She stands at the forefront of exploring how automation and AI can unlock new possibilities in the field by bridging emerging technologies with timeless engineering principles. All while ensuring human ingenuity remains at the core of her work. In Arup’s Dubai Future Forum Workshop, she co-presented with global thought leaders on shaping “A New Material Culture for Dubai 2050.” Her ability to approach challenges with a blend of creative thinking and data-driven solutions has set her apart.

At the intersection of AI and traditional engineering, she explores how ethical considerations can guide the responsible development and deployment of smart technologies. A dynamic force with a clear vision, Ayah Rahmoun is not just part of engineering she is part of its future.
